2.27 The 8th seminar on “The Role of Japan’s Diplomacy in the Middle East/Eurasia”

The eighth seminar of the project “The Role of Japan’s Diplomacy in the Middle East/Eurasia: Understanding the Reality of Great Power-led Connectivity Strategies and Regional Order Restructuring in an Era of Competition among Nations” was held as outlined below.

 

1. Outline of the Eighth Seminar

Date & Time: at 14:00 – 16:00 on Thursday February 27, 2025

Venue: Middle East Institute of Japan (MEIJ) *Hybrid format of in-person and online.

Participants: Ryohei Kasai (Gifu Women’s University), Mizuki Chuman (ROTOBO), Masaki Mizobuchi (Meijigakuin University), Emi Mifune (Komazawa University)

MEIJ: Kiyoshi Asako (Vice President), Kenta Aoki (Executive Research Fellow), Mayu Kaneko (Secretary General/Senior Research Fellow), Kenichiro Takao (Executive Research Fellow), Masahide Takahashi (Senior Research Fellow)

Observer: Chie Ezaki (National Defense Academy)

 

Main contents:

- With the final report in mind, the five committee members in charge presented the results of their research on the connectivity strategies of India, Russia, and Iran in the Middle East/Eurasia as well as energy trends, and the concept of the papers.

- Based on these concepts, the committee members discussed whether the report covered the perspectives and issues of major actors, whether there were too many or too few points of contention, and whether there were ambiguities in the definition of concepts.

 

*The results of this project will be publicized from time to time on the website of MEIJ, at symposia, and in the final report.
