2025.11 Conducting Research in Jordan
In early November, as part of the field research for the project "The Role of Japanese Diplomacy in the Middle East and Eurasia," Associate Professor Chie Ezaki of the National Defense Academy visited Jordan. While in the capital city of Amman, she discussed Jordan's foreign policy, the situation in the Middle East, and related topics with researchers from the Jordan University and think tanks. During this visit, it became clear that Jordan, which already has limited water resources, is facing increasingly severe shortages due to the impacts of climate change. Interested in this issue, Ezaki visited the Jordan Museum in Amman and inspected panels related to water resources.

The other panel reported that the water level of the Dead Sea is dropping by one meter per year. Due to climate change, Amman reportedly receives less rain and snow than in the past. Currently, in addition to the Red Sea-Dead Sea Pipeline, a project to distribute water from the Red Sea to the capital Amman has commenced, with French companies among those participating.
