Launch of “The Role of Japan’s Diplomacy in the Middle East/Eurasia”
The Middle East Institute of Japan (MEIJ) has started the research project titled “the Role of Japan’s Diplomacy in the Middle East/Eurasia: Understanding the Reality of Great Power-led Connectivity Strategies and Regional Order Restructuring in an Era of Competition among Nations”, with the FY2023 Subsidy for the Research and Study Projects on Diplomacy and Security by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
While the influence of the United States is declining, Russia, India, and China are expanding their influence in the Middle East/Eurasia, which extends from Asia, including the Middle East, to Europe, and competition among nations is becoming increasingly fierce. Based on this understanding of the situation, this project aims to elucidate the reality of great power-led connectivity strategies and regional order restructuring in the Middle East/Eurasia through research on the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) and regional-led diplomacy in the Middle East, and to propose a role for Japan in the region as it works to formulate a rules-based order.
